Science/Sociology/Scripture | Week 1 | Identity Series

comms   -

Question we are answering is: What does it look like when we don’t find our Identity in the Lord.

Science/Sociology/Scripture

14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:14 NIV

Science/Sociology/Scripture

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV

Science/Scripture

  • Science says, everything came from nothing?
  • Scripture says, “God created the Heavens and the Earth” (Genesis 1:1)

  • Science says, we evolved from Apes? (1856 Neanderthal Man, 1859 The Origin of the Species, 1974, Lucy)
  • Scriptures says, we reproduce after our own “Kind” (Genesis 1:22)

22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
Romans 1:22-23 NIV

Identity/Oxford Dictionary:  The fact of being who or what a person or thing is

Science: The ability to determine kind is self-evident or biologically-event

13 For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
    when I was made in the secret place,
    when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
    all the days ordained for me were written in your book
    before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
    they would outnumber the grains of sand—
    when I awake, I am still with you.
Psalm 139:13-18 NIV

Sociology/Scripture

  • Society says, love expressed as sexuality defines freedom?
  • Scripture says, that God is love, and that you will know the truth and the truth will set you free (1 John 4:8, John 8:32)

12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” 17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
1 Corinthians 6:12-20 NIV

Words of Knowledge

  • We believe the Lord is healing people who have been experiencing blurred or cloudy vision.
  • We believe the Lord is healing people with tinnitus (constant ringing in the ear).
  • We believe the Lord said there is a person who is about to move into a new job, and you are holding unforgiveness toward your supervisor on your old job. You were let go from your old job and you’re blaming that supervisor for this. We believe the Lord is saying this dismissal was the Lord’s doing. He was setting you up for the future that he has for you. It is important that you forgive the old supervisor in order to walk into this new job with the blessing of the Lord on you.
  • We believe the Lord showed us a family who has a son that has been diagnosed with ADHD and that he actually does not have this but just learns differently. He doesn’t fit the mold of traditional education and learning. We believe the Lord is breaking off of his life these words that have been spoken over him of ADHD.
  • We also believe that the Lord wants to heal and deliver an older son in his 20’s named Kelly. He still lives at home and has been diagnosed with ADHD and uses medical marijuana to treat anxiety.  We believe the Lord is saying if you go home and speak over him that he is not ADHD, that he has been wrongfully labeled, and have him renounce the lie of ADHD; God is going to set him free of all baggage that comes with this label.
