How to Stand for the Lord in a Compromised Culture
14 “Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” ~ Joshua 24:14-15 ESV
You can’t change a culture you’re afraid to confront.
Joshua teaches us that true faith draws the line—not in arrogance, but in God inspired action.
Your home, your soul, your future needs clear lines in an age of compromise.
JOSHUA’S LAST WORDS, FINAL STAND
This is not just a farewell speech — it’s a final stand.
15 … choose this day whom you will serve, … But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” ~ Joshua 24:15 ESV
He was drawing a line in worship, identity, and spiritual loyalty.
In a compromised culture, drawing the line isn’t judgmental — it’s redemptive.
THE POWER OF A LINE DRAWN IN FAITH
A. Lines Define Loyalty
Joshua says: Covenant with compromise don’t do well together– a little bit of compromise can ruin a whole lot of Covenant
14 “… Put away the gods that your fathers served …~ Joshua 24:14 ESV
What were the things that hindered the generation before you (family/parents), and are any of them, now hindering you?
Hurts/father issues, and Habits/slander-anger, and Hang-ups/outbursts
Root Issue | Manifestation | Scripture Anchor | Demonic Parallel |
Father Wounds | Rejection, Isolation | Psalm 68:5, Romans 8:15 | Orphan Spirit, Molech |
Slander/Anger | Gossip, Rage, Division | Ephesians 4:26-27, James 3:6 | Leviathan, Belial |
Outbursts/Control | Explosiveness, Manipulation | Hebrews 12:15, Galatians 5:20 | Jezebel, Python |
The enemy doesn’t need to be worshiped to be empowered—he just needs to be tolerated!
What is the Lord asking you to put away or put down?
B. Faith Requires Decision
This isn’t a someday thing. It’s a now thing.
15 … choose this day…” ~ Joshua 24:15 ESV
- Joshua knew drifting is the default in culture — decisions cut through the drift.
Drawing a line, isn’t hate. It’s clarity for the course of your life
Conviction isn’t division, it’s the outflow of your devotion to the Lord
A HOUSEHOLD DECLARATION IN A FRAGMENTED WORLD
A. Joshua Didn’t Just Lead a Nation — He Led a House
He starts with “As for me…” — personal devotion.
Then “…and my house…” — spiritual leadership.
Your greatest spiritual legacy may not be what you do in the public eye, but how you lead behind your front door.
B. A House that Serves the Lord Isn’t Built Accidentally
But as for me and my house …” ~ Joshua 24:15 ESV
“As for me and my house…” was a testament of consistency, not just a statement of faith.
You’re building culture in your home — whether you realize it or not.
Build it on the Word, on prayer, on worship, on truth.
CALL TO COURAGE: DRAWING THE LINE IN OUR DAY
God is looking for those who walk in the spirit of Joshua: men and women, students and seniors who say: “You can do what you want, culture can go where it wants…But as for me and my house, we refuse to blend, and we refuse to bow… As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Drawing the line doesn’t make you a radical — it makes you a disciple.
A boundary drawn in the Spirit is not legalism—it’s loyalty.
The early Christians drew lines, and they were called faithful.
Today, we draw lines, and we’re called extremists.
But what God calls it… is obedience!
WHO WILL YOU SERVE?
“…Choose this day whom you will serve…” ~ Joshua 24:15 ESV
- Not someday. This day.
- Not hypothetically.
- Not half-in. All-in.
The line you draw today becomes the legacy they live tomorrow. So, draw it boldly. Draw it faithfully. Draw it at the foot of the Cross!
Words of Knowledge
We believe the Lord wants to heal someone struggling with hyperplasia, an enlargement of an organ.
We believe the Lord wants to heal someone with Achilles tendonitis.
We believe the Lord wants to heal someone suffering with inner ear inflammation; this is hindering your hearing and balance.
