Father’s Day | Week 3 | Faith and Family Series
Faith That Starts at Home
14 “Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” ~ Joshua 24:14-15 ESV
The greatest INHERITANCE a FATHER can leave isn’t WEALTH, but a household ANCHORED in FAITH!
JOSHUA’S FINAL WORDS
- Joshua is 110 years old. A warrior. A leader. A man who saw many miracles.
- His last public address is not about military tactics or tribal discord — it’s about LEGACY!
- He calls the nation back to covenant with God but begins with his own household.
- Spiritual leadership begins at home.
God is looking for fathers who will stand up and say: “I choose God — for me and for my house.”
THE POWER OF A FATHER’S CHOICE
- Leadership Is Not a Suggestion — It’s God’s Direction
- You’re not just raising kids; you’re raising future worshippers, witnesses, and warriors!
- Every Father is Leaving a Legacy — The Question is, What Kind?
- What are your children learning from your:
- Priorities?
- Prayer life?

Legacy isn’t just taught; it’s caught
ROOTED IN THE WORD, NOT IN THE WORLD
- Fathers are called to Know and Live the Word.
- A Father’s job is to know God’s Word in order to follow his will.
- Prioritize the Word Over the World.
You don’t have to be anywhere near perfect — you have to be present and planted in the Word.
THREE PRACTICAL WAYS FATHERS BUILD LEGACY
1. Be a Man of Conviction
- Decide your home won’t be defined by moral compromise.
- Draw a line like Joshua: “No idols in this house. No divided loyalties.”
- Lead in priorities. Make Sunday worship non-negotiable.
2. Model Repentance and Grace
- Joshua didn’t claim perfection. But he stayed aligned with God’s will.
- Fathers, be quick to say, “I sorry and I was wrong” That models humility and dependence upon your Heavenly Father
- Our children will learn far more from how we recover from our mistakes, than they will ever learn from how we pretend to be perfect.
3. Create Rhythms That Center Your Home on God
- Have dinner without devices and ask real questions.
- Pray before big decisions — invite your family into that.
- Read a short devotional or Psalm at bedtime.
Your rhythms will become your children’s memories.
DECIDE: CHOOSE THIS DAY
Joshua’s charge is still ours: “Choose this day whom you will serve.”
Everyone gets to choose: We can’t control culture. We can’t control our kids’ future choices.
But we can control whether or not we will lead our homes in a Godward orientation.
“As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”
“You don’t have to have it all together — you just have to bring it all under the Lordship of Jesus.”
Words of Knowledge
- We believe the Lord wants to heal someone struggling with cellulitis in their leg.
- We believe the Lord wants to heal someone of gout today.
- We believe the Lord wants to heal someone suffering with pleurisy, sharp pains in the chest when breathing.
