Tampa and Online Notes – God is looking for our Yes!

I believe God is looking for our Yes! A new Yes! A fresh Yes! A right now Yes!

19 Now when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were together due to fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and *said to them, “Peace be to you.” 20 And when He had said this, He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be to you; just as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”John 20:19-23 NASB

God doesn’t just give us something and then leaves… He sets us up to steward His gifts well.

GARDEN

43 Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. 44 And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. ~ Luke 22:43-44 NASB 1995

DEATH

30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. ~ John 19:30 NASB 1995

RESURRECTION POWER/ THE GARDNER/ A NEW WORK

15 Jesus *said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing Him to be the gardener, she *said to Him, “Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” ~ John 20:15 NASB 1995

HOLY SPIRT BREATHED

22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. ~ John 20:22 NASB 1995

24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” 26 After eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus *came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then He *said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” 28 Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus *said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.” ~ John 20:24-29 NASB 1995

Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” ~ Acts 1:4-8 NASB 1995

13 When they had entered the city, they went up to the upper room where they were staying; that is, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. 14 These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. ~ Acts 1:13-14 NASB 1995

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. ~ Acts 2:1-4 NASB 1995

They were amazed and astonished, saying, “Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God.” 12 And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others were mocking and saying, “They are full of sweet wine.” ~ Acts 2:7-13 NASB 1995

37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” 40 And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation!” 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.  42 They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.~ Acts 2:37-42 NASB 1995

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills. 12 For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. ~ 1 Corinthians 12:4-13 NASB 1995

SouthShore Notes – A Renewed Yes

12 Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” So Abram went forth as the Lord had spoken to him; and Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew, and all their possessions which they had accumulated, and the persons which they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan; thus they came to the land of Canaan. Abram passed through the land as far as the site of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. Now the Canaanite was then in the land. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him. ~ Genesis 12:1-7 NASB 1995

Every time God does some new or significant among His people, He brings them back to the point of the covenant for a renewed “Yes.”

Every new season requires a renewed yes

You cannot live in this season off of the “yes” from the last season.

27 Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions. ~ Luke 14:27-33 NASB 1995

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 25 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. ~ Matthew 16:24-25 NASB 1995

18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who [a]are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. ~ 1 Corinthians 1:18 NASB 1995

38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~ Romans 8:38-39 NASB 1995

Have you come again to the place of the covenant—the cross of Christ?

Does God have your Yes?

Plant City Notes – Rowing in Rhythm

The Gospel Moves Forward Through Servants of the Word

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus; so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught. ~ Luke 1:1-4 NASB 1995

  • Eyewitnesses = autoptēs (“autopsy”) – examined firsthand, truth-based testimony
  • Servants = hyperētai (“under-rowers”) – unseen, synchronized, obedient to the voice
  • Servants of the Word:
    • Submit to the Spirit
    • Synchronize with Christ’s teachings
    • Row at the Master’s command
  • Marks of Servants: Submission, Unity, Humility, Dependence

Key Scriptures:
John 8:31–32 – Continue in My Word = true disciples
Romans 6:22 – Freed from sin, enslaved to God

Faithfulness in Obscurity Doesn’t Mean Fruitlessness

In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years. Now it happened that while he was performing his priestly service before God in the appointed order of his division, according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense. ~ Luke 1:5-9 NASB 1995

  • Zechariah & Elizabeth: Righteous, yet childless
  • Righteous = daily obedience, not sinless perfection
  • Adversity is not absence of God’s presence
  • Faithfulness continues despite lack or unanswered prayer

God Meets Us at the Altar of Surrender

10 And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering. 11 And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense. 12 Zacharias was troubled when he saw the angel, and fear gripped him. 13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John. 14 You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. ~ Luke 1:10-14 NASB 1995

  • 400 years of silence broken in the place of prayer
  • 10 – God responds at the hour of incense (intercession)
  • 11 – Angel appears on the right side (favor, provision, relationship)
  • 12 – Holy encounters may stir fear
  • 13 – God remembers covenant (Zechariah + Elizabeth = “God remembers His oath”)
  • 14 – Spirit-born joy: not passive, but outward, expressive worship

The Forerunner Mandate and the Church’s Call

16 And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God. 17 It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” ~ Luke 1:16-17 NASB 1995

  • Fulfillment of Malachi 4:5–6 – turning hearts, restoring families
  • John = forerunner of Christ’s first coming
  • The Church = forerunner of Christ’s second coming
  • 2 Corinthians 5:20 – Ambassadors for Christ
  • Spirit and Power of Elijah:
    • Call out idolatry
    • Restore covenant
    • Call down fire and repentance
  • Spirit of Elijah now rests on the Spirit-filled Church
    • Multiplied at Pentecost
    • Still active today

Two Ways to Respond to God’s Voice

Zechariah: The Doubter

  • Asks not how will it happen but how can I trust God?
  • Doubt elevates circumstances (the premise) over the promise
  • God may silence doubt to preserve promise
  • Doubt disguised as “wisdom” can be dangerous and contagious

18 Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.” 19 The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. 20 And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.” ~ Luke 1:18-20 NASB 1995

Elizabeth: The Worshiper

  • Waits in worship
  • Hiddenness before revelation
  • Some promises must be nurtured in private before being revealed in public

24 After these days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant, and she kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying, 25 “This is the way the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor upon me, to take away my disgrace among men.” ~ Luke 1:24-25 NASB 1995
