Key Question: If Jesus is greater in every chapter… what has He done in your chapter?

2. What He Carried So You Don’t Have To

And when you were dead in your wrongdoings and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our wrongdoings, having canceled the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.~ Colossians 2:13-15

  • He freed you from Sin and Self
    • v13: You were dead. He made you alive.
    • Two chains: Sin (What you do without Christ) and self (who you are without Christ).
    • Jesus broke both.
  • He canceled the Debt
    • v14: Certificate of debt nailed to the cross.
    • Historical context: Roman debt records nailed when paid.
    • Key Insight: Don’t resurrect what God already buried.
  • He triumphed over Satan
    • v15: disarmed the enemy, made a public spectacle.
    • Roman “triumph” parade imagery: Jesus is the Victor, the cross is his parade.
    • That is the call, march with Jesus.

3. Modern Burdens We Still Carry (But Shouldn’t)

  • Guilt over past sin
  • Trying to earn God’s love
  • Unforgiveness
  • Shame from abuse or failure
  • Anxiety about provision
  • Fear of rejection
  • Comparison and jealousy
  • Trying to fix yourself before coming to God

4. Living The Exchange

  • Freedom from Condemnation
    • Stop calling yourself names Jesus never did.
    • Declare: “That debt is nailed to the cross”
  • Freedom from Fear and Anxiety
    • You fight from victory, not for it.
    • Declare truth in moments of fear: “He carries this”
  • Walk in Boldness to Serve and Love
    • Don’t serve to earn approval. Serve from a place of victory.
    • Stop proving yourself… Start pouring yourself out, because you’re already full in Christ.

Closing: The Soldier Who Missed The Victory

  • Hiroo Onoda: Japanese soldier hid in the jungle for 29 years after WWII ended.
  • He lived like the war was still going, even after peace was declared.
  • Point: Jesus already won. Stop living like you’re still at war.
